Another Old Video Part III

Back in August I posted some old videos (Ant and Another Old Video) I had found. The quality wasn't great, and Kev just copied them a little better, so I thought I would repost them.

The "fast" one is supposed to be fast -- it's not supposed to be a slide show or anything. It was just an exercise in using some of the tools.

Without further ado, here is Ant and Another Old Video, digitally remastered (and now in living color)!

Print of a Chair

This is going to be a short post. I am not feeling that great, but I wanted to post this small 6x6" print I did. I am not sure if I want to go further with this within the print or whether I want to play upon this piece by expanding on the concept by way of multiple prints on the same theme. Anyway, I need to rest.

Drawing A Day, 3.19.2008

Crumpled paper. 17 minutes...I just didn't have the patience that day. I like drawing on the text, but I think with something so complicated and detailed, I might want to try a less busy background. It's also a little tough to draw on the acrylic base I had painted. It's a little too glossy for drawing with pencil. I'll need to do some experimentation for a painted ground.

I haven't been so good about these this time. It's really hard to keep these up when I am out of town and when I am not in a routine.

My apologies on how these line up -- there is something in the coding of Blogger that causes them to be askew sometimes. However, I'd rather spend my time making art than fighting the coding.

A Drawing A Day, 3.13.2008

I am loving drawing on alternative materials. I actually tried to draw on some painted vellum, but that didn't work so well, so I am saving that for a screen printing project.

The page fascinated me because even thought it was trying not to be racist, it was really still very racist and stereotyped. I mean, not that this is an excuse but it was 1964 when this book was published.

I have to admit though, overall, I did like the previous day's core a lot better.

Page A Day, February 27-March 11, 2008

Well, you can clearly see the ones that I sat down and focused on, and the ones I left until bedtime!

This studio is so good for me because it forces me the peace and focus to make artwork.

I do love the ghosts that some of the drawings have left on previous days!

Apple core. This was a lot of fun and really beautiful to draw. Think I am going to keep this up, these half eaten foods...

This measures in at the standard 6 x 6 inches.

Enjoy!

A Drawing A Day, 3.7.2008

Friday I spent a lot of time in the studio. It was really refreshing. The tenants upstairs can be kind of loud, but I am getting used to it, and learning how to best deal with blocking the noise out.

I used another one of dad's out-of-date psychology books and altered it. I decided to let the cover and the content drive this drawing, as you can see on the left.

Additionally, I am really enjoying drawing screws. They have so much texture to them and the light hits them so interestingly. I love the shadows they cast.

This drawing is about 4.5 inches square. It is on a coated cover sheet, which I rubbed a bit with sandpaper to get some more texture/tooth to the page. I then worked into it with pencil, my exacto, cut paper and nail polish. (I discovered some ManicPanic nail polish I bought at Pearl Paint in Cambridge for pennies a couple of years ago and I am just having so much fun with the enamel!) I really had fun with this piece.

I am also thinking of a larger scale project I want to do with small items that fit in a one inch square area. More on that soon, I hope!

A Drawing A Day, 3.4.2008

Another watercolor on clayboard...still having trouble with accurate scans, especially when I scrape into the clayboard. Any ideas of how to fix this?

I don't have anything exciting to say. Well, yeah, I do. Today was my first time actually working in my new studio space. I mean, Kev and I have been in there a lot and building equipment, and the other weekend, Mom, Dad, Kevin, Jesse, Ashley, and Jonah helped with the move
(thank you so much, all!) , but today was the first day of actually going there during the day alone to work.
